Head of M&A
Position Mandate
Our client is a rapidly growing, collaborative organization located in Ottawa, dedicated to transforming dental care across core regions. The executive team is committed to a dynamic M&A strategy that drives their business forward. They are seeking an accomplished Head of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) who is ready to play a pivotal role in our success.
Location
Hybrid with an Ottawa head office.
Key Responsibilities
As the Head of M&A you will report directly to the CEO and lead their strategic M&A initiatives. Your mission will be to identify, evaluate, and execute acquisitions that align with our growth objectives. Success will be measured by your ability to drive sustainable acquisitions, establish dental partnerships in new regions, and mentor team members in collaboration with seasoned Private Equity partners.
- Strategic M&A Leadership: Develop and execute a dynamic M&A strategy that positions MCA Dental as a leader in the dental industry. Collaborate closely with the executive team to align M&A efforts with the company’s overarching growth vision.
- Deal Origination and Evaluation: Proactively identify, assess, and prioritize dental practice acquisition opportunities within core regions and potential expansion areas. Leverage your deep industry knowledge to source and evaluate opportunities that drive growth and profitability.
- Comprehensive Due Diligence: Lead rigorous due diligence efforts, ensuring that financial, legal, operational, and cultural factors are thoroughly assessed for each potential acquisition. Implement best practices to uncover hidden risks and opportunities.
- Strategic Negotiation: Utilize your exceptional negotiation skills to secure favorable terms and agreements with practice owners and stakeholders. Develop innovative deal structures that maximize value while aligning with the company’s strategic objectives.
- Post-Merger Integration Excellence: Oversee seamless post-merger integration processes, working closely with cross-functional teams to realize operational efficiencies, capture synergies, and ensure a positive transition for acquired practices. Champion best practices for integration in alignment with the company’s growth goals.
- Performance Metrics and ROI: Establish and monitor key performance metrics tied to successful and sustainable acquisitions. Continuously evaluate the ROI of M&A activities, adjusting strategies as needed to optimize outcomes and profitability.
- Team Leadership and Mentorship: Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing M&A team, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence. Provide mentorship opportunities for team members and collaborate with seasoned Private Equity group partners and the CEO to enhance leadership capabilities.
- Market Insight and Industry Trends: Stay at the forefront of industry trends, market dynamics, and regulatory changes in the dental industry. Use this knowledge to inform decision-making, identify emerging opportunities, and maintain a competitive edge in the M&A landscape.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, including finance, legal stakeholders, human resources, operations, and marketing teams, to ensure a coordinated and successful execution of M&A initiatives.
- Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Effectively communicate M&A strategies, progress, and results to the executive leadership team and other stakeholders, fostering transparency and alignment with the company’s vision.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the M&A function, identifying opportunities to enhance processes, tools, and methodologies for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
The Candidate Profile
Ideal Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field; MBA preferred
- A proven track record in a transaction services role with external facing responsibilities
- Experience in a high-paced, acquisition-focused roll-up strategy would be preferred
- Experience in M&A leadership in healthcare or a related industry is an asset
- Demonstrated success in closing complex M&A transactions
- Strong financial modeling and negotiation skills
- Exceptional leadership and team management abilities
- In-depth knowledge of the dental industry and regulatory requirements an asset
- Proficiency in French is considered an asset
